Critical Reflection Questions

Image
  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? The music video I produced was a mix of the pop and indie genre of music. When I researched multiple types and kinds of music videos of the same genre, rhythm and style, I came across multiple types of conventions. The major connection I made between them was the clothing or costumes that the actor or actors were wearing. They consisted of normal, everyday wardrobe, which had jeans, t-shirts, and loose hair. This way the audience would see how relatable the story line would be to them, while also being able to put themselves in the actor's shoes. Being able to be relatable, connects the audience in a deeper, more powerful way. The similar music videos also obtained a less detailed background with more focus on what the actor was doing, not on what was going on around the actor. Keeping the focus on the main subject helps the audience understand what is happening in the st...

Music Video

Image
This was my third filming and editing project this year in AICE Media Studies. This was the most time consuming one yet, making it the most challenging one. Unlike the commercial which was fully filmed indoors, the music video was filmed inside and outside. This meant that I needed to make note of the weather changes which are always constant. My original out plan called for a short sleeve black top, but when the weather changed from hot to cold very quickly, I decided to change it to a long sleeve turtle neck. Needing to make tiny changes to adapt to the things out of my control was a brand new adjustment. This music video also took multiple days to film and edit, creating long hours of reshooting and placing of scenes. The major difficulty I faced was the lighting during the nighttime in the last scene which called for multiple lighting angles to try. I was having trouble coming up with new ways to hold the main light, a flashlight, in a way that would benefit myself and the...

Filming and Editing Blog: Reshooting and Transitions

It was now time for the final changes, edits, and shooting of my music video. The first thing I made sure to do was have all of my props, money, passport, flashlight, and bag ready to go at the beginning of the day. I also made sure that every thing in the set was exactly same as the time before so that there was no visible difference in the separate filming days. Then, I shot the necessary scenes that I needed for my music video that I either failed to film before or that were trashed all together. A difficulty I faced when filming again was the lighting outside in the final scene. Since the actor was laying down and the camera was looking straight down, it was hard to get a good shot with the correct lighting. The lighting would either be too dark, too bright, or uneven making the actor look disformed and give off a different aura than the one I wanted. Also, the weather changes influenced my filming days heavily. I had planned to film at night while being out...

Editing Blog: Testing Filters and Adjusters

As I finished filming, I began editing and piecing my videos, clips, and audios together. After airdropping the video clips from my phone to the laptop, I began importing the first half of the music video into iMovie. This took a little bit of time considering how long each file was. Some of my clips were a little longer than what I anticipated when shooting. I needed to trim them down to 5 seconds or less in order for the clips to fit the time frame. Some scenes were extremely longer meaning that I needed to trash them all together and film another day. I attempted to either slow down or speed up clips so that they could fit in, but they looked too awkward and out of place. I then added the 1 minute audio of the song I chose and placed it over the clips. I made sure to silent and mute every clip I had so that the music could be clearly heard and not covered by any noises in the videos. However, the most difficulty I faced was when the music video scenes...
