Final Task: CCR

Image
This is my Creative Critical Reflection on the final task for Mother. In this video, I spoke about conventions in thriller films that are similar in my final task. Through thorough research I was able to include aspects of thriller films that I did not know of before. My journey as a film maker has grown and I am now knowledgeable of different key details to movies I would of never noticed before. I hope you enjoy.

Final Task: Mother

Looking back on the final task, I am grateful that I was able to work with a group. I was able to learn much more about editing through them and through the research we all did. Our growth in filming and editing is becoming more clear as we end the year with this project. Although we did run into some problems while filming, we were able to work everything out and have a final result that we are happy with. I hope you enjoy.

Eye Blink Difficulties and "Poisonous" Sounds

Today is the final day before the project is due. We found out that splitting up the scenes, like how we did with the storyboard, would not work. We I sent the clips to other group members and they pieced them together and sent them back, they were blurry and needed to be discarded. I suggested that I should be the one to edit, while they chose was sound, filter, and font would go in the opening sequence. I spent two days editing and placing all the scenes and clips into iMovie on my laptop. The first thing I focused on was trimming the scenes to get it to fit in the 2 minute time frame. This was a difficult process since majority of our scenes went over the time it had. When filming, we forgot to time each section and free styled it. Even though we planned on doing it, we forgot to execute it. However, we made due with what we had and made jump cuts in between long clips. This also fit with the thriller genre and feeling of the opening sequence. I then reviewed my previous research o

That's a Wrap!

Today was our final and last filming day. Since we were filming towards the end of the day, we focused on the morning and early afternoon reviewing what scenes we needed to film and the angles and lines required. I arrived an hour earlier than the other 2 members so that I could communicate with the main character one on one, face to face. We reshot scenes that were missing or just bad overall. Raquel and I first shot the closeup of the phone and text message between her and her friend Emily. Then I shot Raquel getting up from her bed and walking towards the bedroom door, then opening it. I then suggested that we print out a list of all the scenes in the film so that we could cross them out and know which ones we had left to do. As we printed out the list and crossed out filmed scenes, the other two group members arrived at the location. We jumped right in and started to film missing scenes in chronological order. I began be reshooting the tea kettle and knife scenes with the mother.

Camera Skills and Makeup Malfunction

My group and I will be filming the rest of the film in 4 days. Since one of the group members, who is not in the state, comes back the day before we film, we will spend majority of our time planning the scenes we need to finish. Focusing on specific details, figuring our angles will be our main goal. This was our biggest difficulty on our previous filming day. Since every group member drew different storyboards, it was difficult to bring someone else's vision to the screen being the camera man. I am also focusing on furthering my experience and skills as a camera person since I am filming on my phone. I am constantly looking up new tools and YouTube videos to help me in the filming process. I learned how to center a main object by using a grid, keeping my phone steady by using a leveler, and to adapt the screen to a nigh time lighting. I also experimented with different angles for the project. I had my sister help me in this process by acting as the mother in scenes that I would b

Filming Time Gap

Image
Our group has not filmed since our last filming day, but we have set a date. We are planning on filming this weekend since everyone will be available. Also, since one group member had an emergency, which could not be ignored, we had to push back our filming. With this huge gap in filming times, I found an abundance of time to do other work and further prepare for the scheduled filming date. Since this is last month before exam month, I spent majority of my time prepping for other AICE exams and AP tests.  Along with this, I also prepped further by asking group members more questions on editing. I asked my group members for their opinion on where each title and name should be on each scene. As well as what filters looked better on certain scenes. Music was also another big decision for our group, but this time on placement. I also asked my group members if the music should begin at the beginning of the opening sequence or in the middle, which is what we previously agreed on. We all agre

Prepping Scenes

Since we could not finish filming all the scenes, we decided to edit the scenes we did have and get ahead of the editing process. I began to look at my phone's camera roll and review all the scenes we had done. I cleaned the videos up a bit by deleting the unnecessary, blooper clips that were taking up a lot of space. I then sent specific clips to each member so that they could begin working and editing. We based who who edit each scenes on what storyboards each member did. Since I drew and wrote explanations on the first 12 scenes, those were the ones I would be editing. When piecing my clips together, I discovered that were were missing a few clips. We missed the closeup of the phone with the text messages and a wide shot of the daughter walking out of her room. We also planned the next filming dates and editing schedule. Two of the group members had emergencies which gave our group greater difficulties. Moreover, since we spent a lot of time trying to figure out the angles
