Editing Blog: Testing Filters and Adjusters
As I finished filming, I began editing and piecing my videos, clips, and audios together. After airdropping the video clips from my phone to the laptop, I began importing the first half of the music video into iMovie. This took a little bit of time considering how long each file was. Some of my clips were a little longer than what I anticipated when shooting. I needed to trim them down to 5 seconds or less in order for the clips to fit the time frame. Some scenes were extremely longer meaning that I needed to trash them all together and film another day. I attempted to either slow down or speed up clips so that they could fit in, but they looked too awkward and out of place. I then added the 1 minute audio of the song I chose and placed it over the clips. I made sure to silent and mute every clip I had so that the music could be clearly heard and not covered by any noises in the videos. However, the most difficulty I faced was when the music video scenes and the song did not match up. This meant that needed to trim them down even further than I already had or shoot again another day. This was the most frustrating part of the editing process seeing that I tried my hardest to film in the correct time slot. Also needing to correspond the action with what the lyrics were saying was another difficulty. I also attempted to adjust the lighting in the clips since it was filmed outside with little to inadequate lighting. However, this process failed because the adjuster would either be too white or too dark which is not what I needed and looked artificial. I also tried placing filters over the video clips, but those too were not what I needed and awkward looking. I then checked for choppiness throughout the video to make sure the clips I had fit and made sense. Also checking if everything was in place and made note of all the clips that I needed to reshoot since they did not make the cut. Lastly, I reviewed the rubric of the music video, making sure that I followed every guideline and requirement needed for the film. At the end, I achieved a time of 1 minute of music video film as instructed.
