Music Video

This was my third filming and editing project this year in AICE Media Studies. This was the most time consuming one yet, making it the most challenging one. Unlike the commercial which was fully filmed indoors, the music video was filmed inside and outside. This meant that I needed to make note of the weather changes which are always constant. My original out plan called for a short sleeve black top, but when the weather changed from hot to cold very quickly, I decided to change it to a long sleeve turtle neck. Needing to make tiny changes to adapt to the things out of my control was a brand new adjustment. This music video also took multiple days to film and edit, creating long hours of reshooting and placing of scenes. The major difficulty I faced was the lighting during the nighttime in the last scene which called for multiple lighting angles to try. I was having trouble coming up with new ways to hold the main light, a flashlight, in a way that would benefit myself and the actor in a flattering way. While holding the flashlight, I also had to film with a hand camera on my phone. Like in my previous project, this was also another difficulty I faced when filming. I needed to hold the camera steady while also moving to create a feeling of motion and time. I attached a selfie stick to my phone to gain better control of the camera and its steadiness. Moving forward, the editing portion of this project was easier than before. Since I had experience from the previous project, I knew where everything I needed was, making this process less time consuming. I can infer that my upcoming project will move a lot faster than the ones previous to them since I am gaining experience and knowledge. Having a thorough plan of what the music video would look like helped me through this process. I knew what I wanted, when I wanted, and how to achieve that in a decent amount of time. Overall, this project enhanced my knowledge in the filming and production side of films. I was able to see through the eyes of an editor and a director, while holding back on the actor to let her feelings come through. This helped me to achieve a new way of connection through allowing the actor to be and not hold back.
