OxiClean Commercial
With this being my second editing project this year, I found it to be easy yet challenging. Looking at my progress, I could see some things could have changed. Majority of my difficulties came from the editing portion of this project. My number one challenge was the internet and uploading difficulty. However, through persistence, my project was uploaded. Moving forward, when looking at the film's rubric, I noticed a few crucial requirements I had forgotten. I then went back to shooting and reshot the scenes I had missed. My attention for details and requirements are much greater than before. My production skills as a director and editor have also greatly improved, seeing that this was my first live action film with multiple shots. Previous films were quick and easy with lack of skills. Furthermore, I have learned that lighting is a key detail to pay attention to. Since my commercial was filmed inside with multiple windows showing many different shadows at different periods of time, it was important to add my own lighting in order to keep a continuous light throughout. I also had to adjust my planned schedule for filming and editing. This needed to fit around my school and personal schedule which I did not take into consideration when planning before. Therefore, I decided to give a whole day focusing on my commercial's shooting and editing. The next day, I primarily focused on cleaning up the commercial. Also, I learned how crucial a script and storyboarding is when shooting a film. They both plan out what is going to happen in the scene without the need of pausing and disrupting the procedures. Moving forward, I also learned the importance of time management. I needed the proper skills in order to plan each minute by minute and the length of each clip. I had difficulty in estimating the correct length of each clip when shooting. However, I solved this by importing them into my editing app and speeding up certain clips while trimming them to fit in the time slot. Another difficulty was that I needed to use a phone to record everything. It was difficult to hold the camera steady enough so that it would not disrupt the sound or quality of the shot. However, I attached my phone to a selfie stick extension which was much easier to handle. Overall, this project enhanced my knowledge in the filming and production side of films. I was able to look through the eyes of an editor.
