Checking the Location and Lighting

When prepping for this film, we needed to make sure the setting and locations were the same as we pictured in our heads. Seeing that the park that we chose to film at is walking distance from my house, I made sure to check the location out. I went everyday after school, a little over a week, to make note of what times of the day and days people were there. I found that majority of kids and their parents show up on the weekends. I also found that teenagers like to come to the basketball court on Tuesdays. The most busiest days were on weekends and Fridays since everyone was coming off of work or hand no work at all that day. This information that I gathered was crucial for our project seeing that we did not want to be at a public park with a lot of people who were not wearing any masks or social distancing. I also made note of the different times the sun set since daylight savings time is coming. This way we could correctly use our time management skills and plan our day correctly. Moreover, when filming inside, we needed to check the lighting indoors. Since our main light sources will be from lamps, ceiling fans, and light bulbs, it will be difficult to produce a bright or dim light. I decided to try different light sources that were portable so that I could take them when my group films. I tried a phone light, reading light, candles, lanterns, flashlights, and head lamp for this trial. The most successful source was the head lamp, flashlight, and candles. These gave off a thrilling and spooky feeling to the camera and audience. I checked these sources indoors and  outdoors so that we could adjust the lighting to our needs no matter where. Also, since one scene in the opening credits takes place in a bedroom, I needed to make sure that the windows in the room had the correct lighting. It was a possibility that the room could be took backlit or too dark. I made sure that the room we were going to use had curtains and blinds that could easily be open or closed so that we could adjust them to our needs. This additional preparations in the location and lighting further aided our upcoming filming of our opening sequence.
