Shooting "Mother" Scenes
Before spring break, our group met together at Raquel's house to film the proper scenes that took place in the beginning and end of our sequence. I brought extra lights and camera equipment in a black bag, which Raquel would be using as her character is walking out of the house. Since I was the first person there, along with Raquel, we filmed the first 2 scenes of the sequence that only had Raquel in them. This way we did not have to waste time when the others got there and it would be more efficient. We also tried to film the establishing shot at the beginning of our sequence, but I realized that we needed a taller car to stand on to get a high angle shot. When the other members arrived, we used their SUV, which was taller than the other cars, to get the high angle shot. Moving forward, as the other members got dressed and prepared their lines, Raquel and I filmed the outside scenes after the interaction with the mother since we were already outside. Once we finished filming the outside shots, we headed inside to wait for the sun to set so that it would match the following scenes. We then shot the scenes that the mother was in inside the house since she was cleaning and fixing the house up for her guest. I set the tea kettle on the stove full of water so that when we reached that part of the scene, the water and steam would be ready to use. I filmed the first interaction of the mother and daughter in the morning. Along with this, I filmed the mother sharpening knives as she prepares for her guest. We made sure to have our safety team there on stand by. Next, I filmed the mother fluffing the pillows on the couch because kidnapping is a routine to her, so she already knows what to do and where the kid is going to sit. About 2 hours into filming, one of our main members had an emergency and had to be home. This was a major problem in our shooting schedule because I wanted to get everything done that same day. However, we finished what scene we were working on pushed the final filming on a separate day. In order to save time, I will distribute different series of scenes to my group members so that they can edit them. Once this is finished, we will know what scenes we are missing, if there are any, so that we can film on our final filming day. This way we will also cut down on editing time and leave more space for adjusting scenes.
