Preparing to Edit
With this project having four group members, it will be difficult for everyone to edit one opening sequence. We will need to either split the scenes up into portions where we can all edit a series of scenes or come together a couple days and edit while sitting at a computer. This will take many days to decide this big decision. When thinking of the musical choices for our film, we came across 2 uses of nondiegetic sound. First, since this is a thriller based film, eerie music will be played towards the end of the film. My group and I still need to conduct research on what specific eerie sound we will be using. Seeing that there is such a huge variety, this will be a very time consuming task. The second choice was of modern, everyday music with lyrics. We researched different music choices that we could use. However, we decided to not use modern, everyday music in our piece because of the difficulty with copyright claims. It would be difficult to try and contact owners of certain songs that we wanted to try out. This would also be a challenge seeing that we have a time limit for our project. Without this music also added to the tension and suspense that a thriller film gives off. My group does have experience when it comes to adding music into an editing program. Even though our knowledge is average, I have hope that we will be able to fully import any sounds or music that we need. Our group has also decided to begin researching different editing techniques that are far more advanced than any of our knowledge on editing combined. We looked for different ways to place the main title and font on the screen so that it does not look out of place. Our group also researched different filters to put onto the film so that it gives off the proper aesthetic. This was a difficult process seeing that we actually needed the scenes in order to see which filter would match the mood. However, we got a general idea of what filters and contrasts we wanted to use throughout the film. Finally, we looked at how to incorporate a point of view blink of the eyes, as seen in the picture, which is crucial in the film.
